John Cena: What's Next for Him If He Leaves the WWE Championship Picture Again?

Next

John Cena will challenge CM Punk for the WWE Championship at Night of Champions, and there’s a good chance that he’ll leave Boston with the title he’s won 10 times throughout his career.
Even if that doesn’t happen, though, the possibility certainly remains that the feud between Punk and Cena will continue beyond the September pay-per-view. Perhaps Punk vs. Cena extends even to Hell in a Cell in October.
We don’t know at this point and probably won’t get a good indication until the Night of Champions match between the two is over.
Regardless of when it happens, however, many fans seem to almost expect Cena to win the WWE Championship from Punk at some point in the near future.
But what if that doesn’t happen? What if Cena doesn’t beat Punk for the WWE title at any point? What’s next for Cena?
Oddly enough, I don’t think this is something that many fans have addressed because, quite frankly, we haven’t thought that far in advance.
But should Punk emerge from his feud with Cena still the WWE Champion, “The Champ” is going to have to move on to something—and someone—else.
That being said, he doesn’t have a ton of options.
The three that come to mind right away are a returning Wade Barrett, Dolph Ziggler and Daniel Bryan.
I wouldn’t mind seeing Cena vs. Barrett: Round 2, but we have indeed seen that in the past. Plus, Barret’s return vignettes have been airing for several weeks now, and chances are he will return while Cena is still busy with Punk.
That leaves two options: Ziggler and Bryan.
Unsurprisingly, I would love to see either of these feuds, primarily because neither has happened, but both have the potential to be fantastic.
Ziggler vs. Cena has happened multiple times before and as expected, was pretty damn good. Bryan vs. Cena, of course, has only happened once in what was a very good match on Raw a couple of weeks ago.
Looking at the potential for a Cena/Ziggler feud, I could certainly see it happening.
Just consider the major names Ziggler has feuded with or at least found himself involved with over the last couple of months. First, it was Sheamus, then Chris Jericho and now, Randy Orton.
The WWE has shown a lot of faith in Ziggler by placing him in feuds and matches with the company’s top stars, so it definitely wouldn’t be a stretch to say that he could challenge Cena after he’s done with Orton.
After all, Ziggler is holding the Money in the Bank briefcase, and it looks like he’s going to be hanging onto it for a while. That, of course, means he’s going to need some placeholder feuds until creative decides to cash in.
Would you complain about Ziggler vs. Cena? I sure wouldn’t…as long as Ziggler doesn’t get buried, that is.
As you can see, I really like the potential of this feud, but I don’t think it’s as likely as the next possibility for Cena: A rivalry with Daniel Bryan.
As mentioned earlier, Cena and Bryan put on a very good match on Raw together, and that was a bout that had very little build and no real animosity between the two.

If Cena doesn't beat Punk for the WWE title, who will he feud with next?

If booked right, however, I think that Cena vs. Bryan is one of the very few must-see rivalries that has yet to happen in the WWE.
Bryan hasn’t been heel all that long (about eight or nine months now), but during his run, he has feuded with some of the biggest baby faces around, including Punk and Sheamus,
Now, however, Bryan seems to be more preoccupied with his “anger management” courses than anything else, and he’s involved in a rehashed feud with Kane that fans aren’t exactly begging to see.
I don’t think that’s an indication of Bryan’s push ending anytime soon, though. I mean, the dude is ridiculously over right now, and his popularity has shown zero signs of going away in the future.
Once Bryan is done with Kane, a feud with Cena seems like an obvious choice (assuming Cena is done with Punk, of course).
Bryan is arguably the hottest act in all of pro wrestling right now, Cena is the biggest baby face in the WWE, and they’ve never feuded.
When you combine all those ingredients, things could indeed be shaping up for a major feud between “Goat Face” and “The Champ.”

No television show is safe forever.
Even insanely long running soap operas like Guiding Light and As the World Turns ran for over 50 years each, but inevitably met their end.
WWE recently hit the landmark 1,000th episode. Is it possible they won't make it to 2,000?
Absolutely.
We're 19 years away from Raw 2000, and a lot can happen in that time.
Nineteen years ago in 1993, we still had WCW and ECW (then known as Eastern Championship Wrestling), we were still years away from the groundbreaking NWO and the Attitude era.
Raw was only one hour long then, there was no Smackdown, and it was a crazy time when there was only one World Champion.
This isn’t meant to be a "sky is falling" scenario. There's no reason to panic. WWE is doing good business, and most likely will for years to come.
However, if a variety of factors don't change, these are reasons why WWE may not make it to Raw 2000.

WWE Analysis
The WWE turned in one of its better editions of RAW in quite some time this week and there is no question that the main thing that everyone has been talking about is CM Punk. Triple H's wishy-washy retirement speech and the hilarious anger management skit featuring Daniel Bryan and Kane were certainly topics of conversation, but Punk appeared to cement his heel turn by beating down Jerry "The King" Lawler.

Question on Everybody's Mind: Was CM Punk's Heel Turn Effective?
Punk's heel turn essentially started on the 1,000th episode of RAW when he clotheslined The Rock and followed that up with a GTS, but I'm not sure it became set in stone until this week. Punk moved the meter a little closer toward the heel realm last week when he kicked Lawler in the head, but he was far more vicious on Monday.
Punk challenged Lawler to a match since Lawler was looking for an apology and The King reluctantly accepted. It ended up being a steel cage match and Punk took advantage of the environment as he defeated Lawler with an Anaconda Vise and then locked the cage door. He proceeded to elbow Lawler in the head and tried to force him to admit he was the best in the world. Lawler wouldn't, but John Cena finally made the save as Punk escaped.

Ring Rust Radio's Take
There were a number of different routes that could have been taken with regards to Punk's heel turn, but it seems like the writers did the correct thing. If Punk had mercilessly beat down someone like Cena, it wouldn't have had the same effect. Half of the crowd dislikes Cena anyway, so I'm not sure he would have gotten a negative reaction.
Lawler isn't anywhere near as good of an announcer as he used to be, but he's a Hall of Famer and a legend in the business. Because of that, he is universally beloved by the fans and Punk embarrassing him did a lot more for his heel persona. There is something about attacking an announcer that seems pretty sinister, so it was a great move from Punk's perspective.

Bleacher Report Insider Scoop: Analyzing CM Punk's New Direction

Night of Champions Fantasy Cards
Night of Champions is a couple weeks away and a pair of matches has already been announced, but there is still plenty of uncertainty with regards to how the card might take shape.
CM Punk vs. John Cena for the WWE Championship and Sheamus vs. Alberto Del Rio for the World Heavyweight Championship are already certainties, but since Night of Champions is the only event at which every title must be defended, there is much more to come.

Question on Everybody's Mind: How Could the World Title Picture Have Been Improved?
The vast majority of fans were hoping that the feud between Sheamus and Del Rio over the world title would come to an end after SummerSlam, but based on the way that their match ended with Del Rio's foot being on the ropes during the pinfall, it seemed clear that there was still more to come from one of the most boring feuds in recent memory.
Del Rio regained his No. 1 contendership last week by beating Randy Orton clean and making him submit to the Cross Armbreaker. Even so, nobody believes that Del Rio is a true threat to win the belt, so it would be a shock if Sheamus didn't retain at Night of Champions. This entire rivalry has just been far too predictable and vanilla as a whole.

Ring Rust Radio's Take
On the show we discussed our fantasy card and one thing that all of us wanted to change was the World Heavyweight Championship match. A popular change was to simply eliminate Del Rio from the picture completely and make the match Sheamus vs. Orton. The WWE had the opportunity to do that last week, but chose not to, so that tells me that Orton is still being punished to some degree for his 60-day drug suspension.
Another option was to make it a multi-man match such as a championship scramble featuring Sheamus, Del Rio, Orton, Big Show and a returning Wade Barrett. This would allow the Sheamus vs. Del Rio feud to take its course as Sheamus could pin him and then possibly begin a new feud with a guy like Barrett if he is impressive in the match. The fact of the matter is no matter what change is made, it would almost certainly be better than Sheamus vs. Del Rio again.

Bleacher Report Insider Scoop: Why Sheamus Isn't a Credible World Champion

TNA Tidbits
Despite many TNA fans calling last week's episode of Impact the best they had seen in ages, it was an embarrassing show that every Ring Rust Radio panelist disliked. There were plenty of problems from the Aces and Eights Storyline to the ending of the horrible A.J. Styles storyline and everything in between, but one of the biggest issues was the way the Bound For Glory Series was handled.

Question on Everybody's Mind: Is the Bound For Glory Series Booked Poorly?
The Bound For Glory Series is a good idea in theory as it is TNA's answer to the Royal Rumble, but I just don't feel like it has been executed well to this point. It was a total waste of time last year as Bobby Roode was given the win only to lose to an injured Kurt Angle at Bound For Glory. With that in mind, I'm not confident things will be any different this time around.
It almost feels like the creative team uses the Bound For Glory Series as an excuse to not create storylines for essentially every top guy in the company. Instead we have Aces and Eights, an uncertain world title picture with Austin Aries and Roode and pretty much nothing else after that. Additionally, I haven't liked the way that things have been booked in the BFG Series as of late.

Ring Rust Radio's Take
Last week's Impact exposed some real issues with the Bound For Glory Series. Having Robbie E win a triple threat against A.J. Styles and Rob Van Dam was a cop out since Robbie has absolutely no chance to qualify for the playoffs. The worst offense came in the form of Mr. Anderson's final Bound For Glory Series match against Bully Ray, however.
Anderson entered the match 10 points behind the final playoff spot, so he obviously should have been going for a submission since anything else would eliminate him for all intents and purposes.
Despite that, Anderson constantly went for pinfalls against Bully Ray before finally beating him and earning seven points. It made absolutely no sense and tells me that the booking for the Bound For Glory Series is extremely sloppy and not well thought out at all.

WWE Rumors: CM Punk, the Rock, Steve Austin and Friday's Top WWE Buzz

Punk2_crop_exact Courtesy of WWE
As we approach the end of a fairly memorable week in WWE, it is always fun to look back to see what will stick and what was just simple ratings bait.
Triple H's pseudo-retirement falls into the latter category. No one believes he is walking away any more than they believe he will put Brock Lesnar over two times in a row.
The CM Punk vs. John Cena match announced for Night of Champions was not a surprise, nor did it make much sense in the context it was made, but it was the right call to actually get Punk back in a main-event on pay-per-view for the first time since December.
There was a lot more that happened, but those were the two biggest stories of the week. What struck you? Where do you want to see change? Whose direction are you happy with?

CM PUNK WANTS TO SHUT THE ROCK UP
Punkrock2_original Courtesy of WWE
This is going to be a CM Punk-heavy news day, as he did an interview recently and discussed a few topics that are of interest to WWE fans. First, he mentioned that he has to hold on to the WWE championship so he can "shut Rock up" at the Royal Rumble.
Question on Everybody's Mind: Will Punk hold the title until the Rumble?

Who Will Be WWE Champion At The Royal Rumble?

Our Take: I have gone on record as saying that would be the best thing for everyone involved in this little championship triangle between Punk, Rock and Cena. I do think that WWE will fall victim to its own impatience and put the title on Cena for at least one month before Punk wins it back before January.
Hype Meter: 5 out of 5 Title Switches
I don't think people realize how significant Punk's current title reign is. We take advantage just how many times WWE loved to change the title simply for a one-night ratings chase, which is why a soon-to-be 10-month title reign in this era is really special.

MORE FUN WITH CM PUNK AND STEVE AUSTIN
Punkaustin_original Courtesy of WWE
The never-ending rumors about Steve Austin's potential return for one more match will likely pick up reading CM Punk's comments on him in that same interview mentioned before. He was clearly trying to work an angle saying that "we'll see...what's injured next year."
Question on Everybody's Mind: CM Punk and Austin are on a collision course, right?
Our Take: Who knows with Austin, but Punk will work any angle he can to get a match with Austin. It's quite obvious Punk holds Austin in high regard and wants to do everything he can to get one more match out of the Rattlesnake.
Hype Meter: 5 out of 5 Dream Matches
WrestleMania 30 could easily be built around a CM Punk-Steve Austin match. Again, it all comes down to whether Austin wants to do it, or is even capable of doing it. That would certainly guarantee the kind of buy rate WWE needs to make the show a success.

DREW MCINTYRE SAYS YOUNG GENERATION WILL TAKE OVER WRESTLING
Drew2_original Courtesy of WWE
Since Drew McIntyre's WWE career is going so well, it makes sense that he would take to Twitter in order to make sure the world knows he believes in what the current crop of young stars in wrestling can do.
Question on Everybody's Mind: Is McIntyre right?
Our Take: McIntyre knows that the talent is there for the business to succeed even as people like John Cena and CM Punk get closer to 40 than 30. It is incumbent upon WWE to put them in a position to succeed, as well as the stars to make the fans believe in what they are doing.
Hype Meter: 3 out of 5 Eternal Optimists
McIntyre is a guy who has always gotten a raw deal from WWE. He was really put into an awkward position when everyone knew Vince McMahon talked about him as the Chosen One. When he didn't look like the best performer in the history of the business, he was hung out to dry.

AJ WANTS TO BOOK HERSELF IN A WRESTLEMANIA MATCH
Ajlee_original Courtesy of WWE
In an interview with Slam! magazine, A.J. discussed her newfound power within WWE and the differences between being a wrestler and general manager of Raw. She also talks about possibly working a match at WrestleMania, though she doesn't get into specifics.
Question on Everybody's Mind: How long will A.J. keep her power?
Our Take: Even though WWE likes to change general managers at the drop of a hat, it is clear that the company sees something in A.J. She might be starting to get over, at least to some degree. She could be in this for the long haul.
Hype Meter: 4 out of 5 Surprise Successes
When A.J. was named general manager, it seemed like a disaster waiting to happen. She didn't have a great presence, or much charisma, but she has really taken to the role and turned out to be one of the better GMs in recent memory.

Why WWE Is Wasting the Talent of Cody Rhodes

Images-1_original_crop_exact
When Cody Rhodes first debuted in WWE, he didn't really seem destined for greatness. Sure, he is the son of Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes, but as a member of Legacy, who always played third wheel to Ted DiBiase Jr. and Randy Orton.
Orton was the top heel and DiBiase seemed like a future main eventer, while Cody just stayed in the background. After the group split up, things stayed to same for Cody. Sure, he adapted a new "dashing" gimmick, but nobody really cared about him.
However, things quickly took a turn for the better.
After being injured on a botched 619, Cody wore a mask and captured the persona of a disfigured, disgusted sick heel. I for one, absolutely ate it up. Rhodes quickly sky-rocketed to the top, eventually capturing the Intercontinental Title. Cody was finally proving his worth, both in the ring and on the mic, as the fans were beginning to realize his potential. Rhodes was destined for greatness, and it seemed like it would only be a matter of time.
While the fans were certainly high on Rhodes, rumors were swirling that those who worked in WWE actually contemplated placing him in a feud with WWE Champion CM Punk. However, that is yet to happen, and now that Rhodes is without his title, he finds himself in the classic "creative has nothing for you" situation.
As of now, Rhodes is involved in a feud of some sort with Sin Cara, but it has been pretty boring and really means nothing. Not to mention, Cody has been on the losing end of this feud, and his stock continues to fall each and every week. Rhodes has everything it takes to succeed, but WWE has simply been wasting him away.
With talk of an NWO return, Rhodes would fit perfectly into the stable. Cody's twisted character would add a nice touch to the rebellious bunch. While some may be against it, I am all for Rhodes being involved in the return of New World Order.
It seems obvious WWE realizes the value of Rhodes, but they just can't figure out what to do with him. While Rhodes is still a great asset, the longer he stays irrelevant, the weaker his character becomes. Cody can only lose for so long before the fans start to stop caring. Like I've said before, he has all the tools to succeed and will one day be in the main event, but it may take longer than most have hoped for.

WWE Night of Champions 2012: Why Sheamus Must Beat Alberto Del Rio Clean

Delriosheamus2_crop_exact Photo courtesy of WWE.com
Most WWE fans were hoping that SummerSlam would mark the end of a long, boring feud over the World Heavyweight Championship as Sheamus defeated Alberto Del Rio. The Mexican Aristocrat inexplicably regained the No. 1 contendership, however, and will receive another shot at Night of Champions.
Part of the reason why SummerSlam didn't end things is because of a controversial ending in which Del Rio's foot was on the ropes during the pin. That, in turn, gave the writers a reason to continue the feud. With that in mind, the result at Night of Champions can be nothing other than a clean Sheamus win.
The moment their match at SummerSlam ended like it did, I immediately knew that we hadn't seen the last of Sheamus vs. Del Rio, which has become the stalest WWE feud in recent memory. The creative team obviously had no other bullets in their holster because even it has to realize that this angle is played out.
If Sheamus wins cleanly at Night of Champions, though, I'm not sure there is any way to justify continuing the storyline. Del Rio has already lost to Sheamus on numerous occasions and it's already a miracle that he has lasted this long as the main challenger.

WWE: Determining the Best Possible Options for Ryback's First Major Feud

Next

There are few more polarizing figures in the WWE currently than Ryback. Some love his immense strength and intensity, while others consider him to be just another big meathead from the same mold as past failures like Brakkus or Mason Ryan.
Whatever the case, there is no question that Ryback has a ton of momentum right now and he will continue to be utilized at least twice a week for the foreseeable future. Rather than constantly having him squashing local enhancement talent or low-card WWE guys, though, it's about time that Ryback becomes involved in something substantial.
Here is a breakdown of the best possible feuds for Ryback as he tries to get over as a legitimate WWE superstar.

Big Show
Hi-res-118553557_crop_exact Gallo Images/Getty Images
If the idea is to make Ryback seem credible rather than just some guy who squashes scrubs, then the Big Show would be a perfect first feud for him. I'm not the biggest fan of Big Show and I do find him boring to some degree, but he has been a fixture in the business since 1995, he's a respected veteran who all the fans have connected to at one point or another and, most importantly, he's huge.
Ryback getting two guys up with his finishing move at the same time was impressive, but doing the same thing to a man who stands seven feet tall and weighs in excess of 400 lbs. would be the stuff of legend.
Feuding with and going over Big Show would accomplish two things at once as Ryback would be beating his first credible opponent and he would be beating a guy who meets and exceeds him physically.
Since Big Show is no longer in the WWE Championship scene and didn't even appear on RAW this week, he clearly has nothing much going on. He is at the point of his career where he doesn't need to be main eventing or winning titles. Big Show is an experienced guy who should be helping up-and-comers get over, so Big Show vs. Ryback makes perfect sense.

Tensai

Which superstar would you most like to see feud with Ryback?

Submit Vote vote to see results
The WWE may have something planned for Big Show and may not be ready to feed him to Ryback just yet, and I would certainly understand that. If that is in fact the case, then Tensai would be a really nice option as well.
Tensai came into the WWE with a bang as he scored wins over John Cena and CM Punk, but his momentum was eventually halted and he has now degenerated to the point where he hasn't appeared on television for a couple weeks.
Tensai is nowhere near Big Show in terms of credibility since he has been thrown onto the scrap heap, but he can be a menacing force and would look like a bit of a threat to Ryback. Tensai had a great match with Sheamus several weeks ago, and even though his push had ended by that point, his fighting style and size made him a worthy challenger to The Great White.
The same could be said if he were to face Ryback. Even though Jack Swagger and Jinder Mahal are big in their own right, Ryback needs to take on a super heavyweight like Tensai in order to seem like the real deal. This feud would give Tensai purpose, it would give Ryback someone of substance to face and it wouldn't end up burying anyone of importance.

Mark Henry
Hi-res-118553595_crop_exact Gallo Images/Getty Images
Of all the possibilities listed, I feel as though a Ryback vs. Mark Henry feud would be the best of the bunch. Henry was awesome prior to his injury and figures to be back some time in the near future. Not only was Henry a dominant force that steamrolled through essentially everyone in the company, but he was also highly entertaining on the mic, so he could pose a physical threat to Ryback and help carry him through promos.
The only issue with this, however, is the fact that I would like to see Henry back in the main-event scene upon his return. Henry wasn't being used particularly well before he left to have surgery, though, so I'm not exactly sure what the WWE's plans are for him. If he isn't poised to be in the world title picture, then a feud with Ryback would probably be the next best thing.
I would have The World's Strongest Man get the better of Ryback several times and create some real doubt with regards to whether Ryback can actually beat him. Nobody wants to see a dominant force who never faces any adversity, so putting Ryback in this type of situation would humanize him and get him even more fan support. It isn't easy to establish a wrestler with just one win, but I feel like Henry would help Ryback solidify himself in a big way.

Chris Jericho or Brock Lesnar: Who Had the Better WWE Return? (Part 1)

Next
Lesnarcena_crop_exact Credit: WWE.com
Since each man’s return in 2012, both Chris Jericho and Brock Lesnar have made waves both online and on television. Both have had a sporadic role in the WWE (Lesnar due to his limited contract and Jericho due to his Fozzy commitments) and have each drawn both criticism and praise. Given the similarities we do have, I pose the question: Who had a better return?
I don’t think this question can be answered in one sitting, so I’ll take a few to develop a good analysis of the return of each man. We’ll look at “The Big Return,” “The Short Term Impact,” and “The Long Term Impact” of each man's return.
Stage 1: The Big Return
Chris Jericho’s return was actually a letdown to many fans. Six weeks of videos that seemed to point in a specific direction really meant nothing come January 2, 2012. When Jericho finally came out all he did was troll the fans for a few weeks. He made tons of promises (End of the world as we know it, anyone?) and found himself on the losing end of the Royal Rumble. He then won a battle royal to win the right to challenge CM Punk a WrestleMania. The build for the match started off well, until drug and alcohol accusations came into play—taking the focus away from being the Best Wrestler in the World (and WWE Champion) and creating a blood-feud that didn’t need a title. Their match at WrestleMania delivered big time, but the build was full of false starts and stalling.
Brock Lesnar’s return program was the polar opposite of Chris Jericho’s. On April 2, 2012 he answered John Cena’s call to The Rock, and blew the roof off of Miami’s American Airlines Arena. Thanks to the way he was booked for the prior six months, fans were growing tired of John Cena.  The possibility of a program that had some teeth to it—teeth named Brock Lesnar—was appealing. Much was made out of Lesnar’s contract situation, and he was booked as cross between a loose cannon and a calculated manipulator. His match against John Cena was brutal in a good way. There were many heavy fisted punches thrown in the match (and during the build) and Cena was left legitimately battered and bruised. But Cena also came out the winner, to the surprise of many.
This is an easy call: Brock Lesnar. The crowd in Miami was practically begging for Lesnar’s return, and they got it. Unlike Jericho’s first night, there was no reaction of “What the hell?” It was one of “that was awesome!” All the way though the John Cena match, Lesnar was entertaining and was the character you wanted to track. And for some proof that Lesnar’s return was bigger & better? At the site I wrote for during Lesnar’s return, it was “suggested” that we throw as much coverage Brock Lesnar’s way as possible after that return. And we did. That “suggestion” was never made after Chris Jericho’s return.

WWE Night of Champions 2012: Rey Mysterio Should Get a Rematch Against the Miz

Next
297616-miz-mysterio_crop_exact_crop_exact photo from wwe.com
At the WWE Night of Champions pay-per-view on September 16, current Intercontinental Champion The Miz will likely be defending his title (it is Night of Champions, after all).
As of right now, no challenger has been announced, but the most probable opponent looks to be Rey Mysterio.
For one thing, on paper, it makes the most sense.
The two fought in a great match at the SummerSlam two weeks ago, with Miz emerging triumphant after pinning Mysterio—clean—with a Skull-Crushing Finale.
One of the undisputed highlights of the undercard, the bout helped return the Intercontinental belt to relevance again, making it, once again, WWE’s most prominent secondary title (never mind the United States Championship; that became a glorified joke a long time ago).
As a recent report from WWE.com noted, Mysterio suffered a concussion during the match, missing a couple of episodes of Raw and SmackDown as a precautionary measure.
Per spoilers, the star appeared at last night's SD tapings, his issues apparently being resolved, meaning he can compete at the upcoming pay-per-view if required to.
With Rey going after revenge—and the Intercontinental Championship—the concussion aspect helps give The Miz/Mysterio rivalry the much-needed edge it requires to be a must-see midcard feud.
If booked correctly, Rey’s title chase will truly be something fans can sink their teeth into. Heck, it’s not like WWE’s floundering midcard has anything else going on for it.
A continuation of the Mysterio/Miz feud would continue to help Miz, too. Since he began working with Rey, the former Real World star has blossomed into a terrific in-ring performer, his patchy, clunky performances now seemingly being a thing of the past.
That’s what finding the right opponent can do for you.
Mysterio is also better off in the Intercontinental title mix. While some may resent him being demoted to the upper midcard—feeling his overwhelming popularity and superior in-ring skills mean she should be in the main event scene with John Cena and CM Punk—at this stage in his career, it is probably the best place for him.
For one thing, after Rey violated WWE’s drug policy for the second time earlier this year, the company is now faced with the daunting prospect of firing him if he fails again (per the wellness program, it's three strikes and you’re out). For this reason alone, it would be unwise to trust him with another established run on top.
There’s also his multitude of injuries over the years. While he can still perform well, all the problems have clearly taken their toll and Mysterio isn’t the wrestler he once was.
At this point, Mysterio may simply be better off settling into the veteran role and aiding up-and-coming stars, rather than pushing himself to the limit in WWE’s high-pressure main event scene.
A Miz/Mysterio rematch also serves as a natural progression of the storyline. Sure, Rey may have lost clean at SummerSlam, but so what? After all, what kind of babyface stops trying just because he failed once?
Not Rey Mysterio, that’s for sure.

Breaking News: WWE Diva Arrested for DWI, Tried to Bribe Police Officer

Yes, you read the title correctly.
Ariane Andrew, known by her ring name of Cameron, was arrested this past Friday at 2:23 a.m. in Hillsborough County, Florida, for driving under the influence of alcohol (as reported by TMZ). According to police, she was pulled over after witnesses say her and an unidentified male were seen getting in her car after having martinis.
Cameron, who I really wouldn't call a Diva as much as a glorified valet to Brodus Clay along with Naomi, reportedly listed her employer as Wells Fargo saying she was a sales associate (per WrestlingInc.com). The report claims she refused to blow into a breathalyzer, which, although smart of her to do, clearly shows that she was intoxicated. She was soon after released on a $500 bond.
However, the most interesting note came during her arrest, when she reportedly offered the police officer $10,000 to let her go. From TMZ:
After cops took her into custody, the report says Cameron offered one of the officers $10,000 to "let her go because she would lose her job."
Soon after her arrest, TMZ caught up with a WWE representative to get his reaction to her arrest. This is all he had to say:
Ariane [Cameron] did not alert us to this matter, we are investigating and will take appropriate action.
Somebody better call her momma, because that does not sound good at all. On a serious note, athletes drinking and driving is one of this country's stupidest and most ridiculous things. There is zero excuse to endanger the lives of other people, especially when you make a ungodly amount of money.
It is for that exact reason that I have no sympathy for Cameron if she is released from WWE.

WWE News: Did CM Punk Bring Back the Lost Art of Blading?

Next

Blading has been a part of wrestling almost since its inception.
In case you are unfamiliar with the term, it's listed on Wikipedia as "the practice of intentionally cutting oneself to provoke bleeding." So, if you have ever seen a wrestler bleed from the forehead during a match, chances are he bladed himself.
Now, news is coming from WrestleZone.com that CM Punk may have brought this banned practice back.
The article states:
WWE Champion CM Punk reportedly cut himself to draw blood during his match on Raw with Jerry Lawler. This is known as a blade job in wrestling which WWE has outlawed. As of now, no backstage fallout or punishment has took place between management and CM Punk. This would mean either CM Punk has gotten to a status where he's able to get away with making a decision like this if he feels its best for the match or he convinced management that the blood was from a legitimate cut.
Punk is far from alone here.
Several stars like Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, etc have used this technique to tell a story or get fans over. This practice has been banned by WWE in the "PG" era. However, it appears over the past few months that WWE has been allowing mild blood to be shown on its airwaves.
Let's face it, when you ram a head into a steel cage and it doesn't bleed, it's not too believable. I think WWE had to change things around and allow moderate bleeding.
In the end, I am not a fan of this practice as it has left permanent scars on many wrestlers.
Not to mention, do we really need to go back to the days of seeing Ric Flair's hair covered in blood?
If this turns out to be true, and WWE allows it, we could go back to actually seeing real wrestling played out on our TV's for weeks to come.

WWE Raw Ratings Report: A.J. Is a Huge Success with Viewers

Next

While the August 27 edition of Monday Night Raw was mostly forgettable from a critical standpoint, there were some bright spots in overall viewership.
The biggest takeaway is the surging popularity of Raw General Manager A.J. Lee.
Her segment—including her knockdown affair with Vickie Guerrero—gained an impressive 439,000 viewers, according to Network.Yardbarker.com (via the Wrestling Observer Newsletter).
It was the second segment of the show (8:15-8:30) which, during Raw's brief tenure as a three-hour program, has not been necessarily known to see an uptick in viewership.
However, in this case, not only did the fans in Milwaukee respond positively to the A.J.-Vickie skirmish, the WWE Universe at home did as well.
In comparison with the rest of Raw, the second quarter-hour saw the third biggest increase in viewership.
The other two heavily featured John Cena vs. The Miz at 9 p.m. and C.M. Punk vs. Jerry Lawler during the final quarter-hour. Historically, these quarter-hours have habitually reflected a significant increase in viewership.
The quantitative proof that A.J. is a hit with WWE fans confirms the decision to not only promote her onscreen character to GM, but highlight her in multiple segments throughout Raw broadcasts.
It is a testament that, despite bungling several characters over the years, the WWE braintrust will get one "right" every so often.
Thus, the key moving forward is to not strip A.J. of the quirky qualities that ingratiated her to the fanbase in the first place.
As a result, A.J. should remain a strong, independent character who continues to skip to her own imaginary drumbeat.

I hope I don't see it, and I'm going to go on the belief that when WrestleMania 29 arrives, Triple H will be on the card but not taking on Brock Lesnar.

If the two are going to have another match, I think it will be before then.

I think this year will be similar to the year of WrestleMania 26, when Triple H worked with Sheamus—a veteran helping one of the stars of the future...a future that Triple H will one day have full control over.

So what younger WWE star would be best fit to work with The Game on the big stage?
