Why WWE Should Leave Jerry Lawler's Health out of the Storyline

Jerry Lawler will be interviewed on tonight’s episode of Monday Night Raw for the first time since suffering a life-threatening heart attack on air exactly two weeks ago.
I have no problem with the interview itself. After all, there’s nothing wrong with Lawler, a beloved and respected WWE Hall of Famer, updating wrestling fans across the world about his health if he chooses to do so.
But the interview is where the WWE should draw the line.
While I’m sure that Lawler’s heart attack will make its way into a storyline somehow (likely through CM Punk) at some point, it’s not going to look good for the WWE if that happens.
The company has already come across as extremely exploitative for filming Jerry Lawler’s return home to Memphis in what looked to be a very choreographed scene. Should the company get him involved in a storyline just two weeks after he nearly died, it’s going to look even more exploitative than it already has.
Lawler didn’t suffer a storyline heart attack. He was mere minutes away from legitimately dying.
I realize that the WWE turns real-life situations into angles all the time, but this isn’t the place or time to do that. The WWE should not take what was a very serious situation and essentially make light of it by playing it up in Lawler’s storyline with Punk.
That storyline should be over and done for good.
It’s bad enough that the WWE has already produced a “Long Live the King” t-shirt in Lawler’s “honor.” You can say that it’s the WWE’s way to honor the man all you want, but in reality, we all know what it truly is: A way for the WWE to make more money.
The WWE is using Lawler’s near-death experience to add to its bank account, and it’s insulting for anyone in the WWE to think that we don’t know that. We are well aware that the WWE is a business, and that its main goal is to turn a major profit.
But basically exploiting Lawler’s tragic health scare by selling a t-shirt at $25-30 a pop is already making the WWE look like an unsympathetic, money-hungry corporation. Trying to make even more money by bringing Lawler back into the storyline mix is only going to exacerbate the problem.
Maybe it wouldn’t be such a big deal for the WWE to do this at a different point in time, but as Linda McMahon makes another run at a U.S. senate seat, capitalizing on Lawler’s hear attack is something that the WWE will almost certainly want to avoid.
The company has already removed (and is still in the process of removing) a number of WWE videos from the Internet that may hurt Linda’s campaign image, so can you imagine what her political opponents might say if the company continues to exploit Lawler’s heart attack?
It would be a big blow to the WWE’s image if Lawler is interviewed on Raw this week, ridiculed by Punk, brought back into Punk’s storyline with Cena and then attacked down the road.
After all, the WWE is already looking pretty bad for allowing a 62-year-old man to compete in matches, despite major problems in the past when similar things have happened.
Like, for instance, when Mae Young was powerbombed through a table or perhaps when Ricky Steamboat suffered a brain aneurysm just two days after being attacked by the Nexus on a 2010 episode of Raw.

They say that three is a trend, and if that saying is true, then the WWE’s trend is that it consistently jeopardizes the health of its older employees. Then, instead of doing the right thing and admitting that they made a mistake, the WWE brass just continues on with the storyline.
How anyone within the company can think that’s good for its image is beyond me, especially as Linda’s senate race heats up and the WWE gets even deeper into the PG Era.
The WWE prides itself on being a family-friendly organization that does plenty of noble things, like working with the Make-A-Wish Foundation or Be a STAR.
But there’s absolutely nothing noble about capitalizing on Lawler’s unfortunate incident by working it into an angle.
As an anti-Nike ad might say: Just don’t do it, WWE.

Ryback Match At WWE House Show Stopped By Doctor, Santino Marella Wants World Title Run

- Ryback's match against Jinder Mahal at Saturday's SmackDown live event in Sarnia, Ontario resulted in a no contest after Ryback suffered a serious cut approximately two minutes into the bout. The match was stopped by doctor's order. - During an interview with WWE Magazine, Santino Marella revealed that even he though he previously said he was content with his standing in WWE, he now aspires to win a World Title.
"There are only four individual titles on the main roster of WWE, and to be one of four champions on a roster of many is pretty prestigious. I'll continue to keep training and then hopefully one day will win the World Heavyweight Title or the WWE Championship," Marella said. "The fans have always expressed their desire for me to enjoy success against the top guys. It was nice seeing them react to me at Elimination Chamber and to know that they still hope I do well."
When asked which wrestlers backstage don't understand his jokes, he revealed Cody Rhodes and The Miz.
"But that's because they can't laugh at themselves," Marella said. "They'll laugh at someone else, but when it comes to themselves—they take things way too seriously."

- For those wondering after he appeared on Friday's SmackDown, Edge has not signed a new deal with WWE. Edge is still a free agent able to do whatever he wants. WWE offered him a contract but it wasn't what he wanted. Edge is basically controlling his own future and will continue to work with WWE when it makes sense. - Kevin Nash and The Great Muta won their tag team match in the co-main event of All Japan Pro Wrestling's show on Sunday in Yokohama. They defeated Taiyo Kea & Seiya Sanada after Nash hit a powerbomb. After the match, Nash posed with Muta and Masahiro Chono for a nWo reunion. Thanks to Puroresuspirit.com for the photo:

WWE Star Works As A Heel, More On Beth Phoenix Leaving WWE, Kelly Kelly's Future

- Kelly Kelly is expected to be back full-time with WWE at some point this year. - Ted DiBiase worked in the heel role at Sunday's SmackDown live event in London, Ontario, Canada. He lost to Kofi Kingston. DiBiase caught a dropkick early in the match, which caused his nose to be busted open.
- As noted before, Beth Phoenix is expected to leave WWE by the end of October. There's a rumor going around that she's looking to do some acting. Apparently Beth leaving WWE is something that she has been thinking about for a while now. Beth is believed to be leaving WWE on good terms.

John Cena Injury Exposes WWE's Weak Upper-Card Face Roster

John_cena-koman_bio_crop_exact John Cena (wwe)
Last week's news that John Cena will be out of action for several weeks has exposed something that the WWE probably does not want to think about but needs to address sooner rather than later.
Couple that with CM Punk's heel turn/alliance with Paul Heyman, and we really do not have a great deal of what we could call upper-card babyfaces who regularly appear on TV. Outside of Sheamus, who really is left that could be relied upon as an upper-card face?
Randy Orton? Not in the long term. Orton desperately wants to be a heel again, but that may not happen until he gets back from shooting the 12 Rounds sequel. Besides, he probably is on thin ice with WWE anyway following his recent 60-day suspension and getting caught flipping off a fan.
Rey Mysterio? Perhaps. He certainly has a huge fan following, especially among kids, just like Cena and Sheamus have. But there seems to be buzz generating that the WWE wants to turn him heel to build up a program with Sin Cara.
Undertaker? Sure, he belongs on this list, but his appearances are too limited. He pretty much is saved for special times, such as milestone TV events and WrestleMania. He's not the day-to-day face needed on the top card.
Triple H? Is he or is he not retired? He sure talked like he is, and he recently cut his hair a la Edge. But who knows? Does he have one more shot left in him? Plans may be in the works for him to eventually build up to some kind of run-up to next year's WrestleMania, so we might not regularly see him on TV.

What should WWE do to build up its upper-card face roster?

Submit Vote vote to see results
Dwayne Johnson or Steve Austin? They are top names, but they are like the relatives you only see on special occasions, like during the holidays or whenever WWE wants to raise its ratings. Once the holidays (or the ratings periods) pass, those relatives go home, and you do not see them for a while.
No, outside of Sheamus, there really is no one to step up and carry the top-card face flag while Cena recovers—and maybe even share that burden when Cena is back at full speed. That's why the WWE needs to build up its top-card face roster.
Perhaps the next few weeks could be looked upon as an audition time for some of the mid-card faces to show they belong on the top card. Or maybe it's time to turn a top-notch heel into a top-tier face.
Whatever the case, replenishing the upper-card face roster is something for the WWE to think about -- seriously.

WWE News: AJ May Be Dropped as Raw GM, Possible Replacements Revealed

Tumblr_m8106yu6mm1r6d97so1_500_original_crop_exact Photo courtesy of WWE and Tumblr
Since Raw 1,000, AJ Lee has been spotlighted as a major character on WWE TV.
Of course, because she's been the Raw GM, lots of screen time has been allotted to her.
As recently as a few weeks ago, we'd see the Puerto Rican diva as much as four to five times on a single Raw broadcast.
If she's not aimlessly skipping around the ring, AJ has been known to be an on-the-fly matchmaker, as well as regularly butt heads with those who contest her authority.
As far as the way she's been characterized, her portrayal has been that of a strong-willed, independent female who sometimes has flashes of incompetence attributed to a lack of control.
While AJ is just finding her groove as GM, a recent report suggests that the character may be dropped altogether.
From the members-only section of WrestlingNewsWorld.com:
There are those in the company that feel despite success this summer in her [AJ's] gimmick with Daniel Bryan and CM Punk, AJ hasn’t worked in the GM role as they had hoped. When replacements are discussed, Vickie Guerrero is a name that continues to draw a lot of support although there has also been talk of keeping her with Dolph and bringing Flair back as GM.
If fans could ultimately choose between Vickie Guerrero and Ric Flair to be the next Raw GM, the latter would unanimously win out.
As effective as a heel Guerrero has been over the years, her shrill "Excuse Me!" act has grown tiresome and groan-inducing.
Not to mention, Raw just saw a heel GM storyline—John Laurinaitis' "People Power"—play out over the first half of the year. A retread of that would not only be too soon, but may irretrievably alienate viewers.
Ric Flair, on the other hand, would be a much better choice for the GM role.
Certainly, credibility isn't an issue as the blond-maned living legend has a plethora of wrestling accolades and peer respect in his favor.
Furthermore, because he hasn't been an on-air character since 2008, Flair would offer a relatively fresh approach to the trite GM formula.
From a continuity standpoint, Flair would also have a greater right to the title of GM than most, given the fact he was depicted as co-owner of WWE in 2001.

WWE Rumors: Possible AJPW Talent Exchange Could Include Big Show and Great Muta

Hi-res-118553638_crop_exact Gallo Images/Getty Images
Big Show may be temporarily headed to Japan in exchange for one of the greatest pro wrestlers of all-time in Keiji Mutoh aka The Great Muta.
WWE has recently begun a partnership with All Japan Pro Wrestling. While what that relationship will become is still up in the air, there are rumors of a WWE/AJPW talent exchange.
Marc Middleton at Wrestlinginc.com reports of "rumblings of some kind of talent exchange where Big Show may be set to make an appearance for AJPW in exchange for a WWE appearance by The Great Muta."
This is all too uncertain at this point to get too excited about it just yet, but the trade would add an infusion of exhilaration into both wrestling promotions and would be mutually beneficial.
Having wrestled for WCW against the likes of Sting and Ric Flair, Mutoh has a history with U.S. audiences.
Whether he reprises his Great Muta gimmick or wrestles under his real name, Mutoh brings an electric energy and a unique style to WWE.
Fans unfamiliar with his work will marvel at his Shining Wizard move and will love when he spits mist into his opponent's eyes.
Matches with Daniel Bryan or Dolph Ziggler could be instant classics.
Greatmuta_crop_exact photo from caws.ws
WWE doesn’t have a great resume when it comes to booking Japanese wrestlers, but on a short-term run with a guy many fans already know, they may not have to do all that much.

Stick him in the ring, and let the magic happen.
As for AJPW, Big Show's immense size is even more of an asset in Japan.
Many of the wrestlers on AJPW's roster would be considered cruiserweights in WWE. Big Show offers them a giant-sized alternative.
WWE fans are somewhat numb to his massiveness now, but Japanese fans will be wearing out their camera-clicking fingers.
If this does pan out, fans can thank Mr. Excitement himself, John Laurinaitis.
Laurinaitis, who wrestled in Japan for several years, has met with AJPW president Masayuki Uchida and could broker a monumental deal.
Here's hoping those meetings result in a strong bond between the two companies and big-time talent exchanges like Big Show and Mutoh and beyond.

Paul Heyman: Why He Will Never Start Another Promotion Outside of WWE

Paul Heyman: Why He Will Never Start Another Promotion Outside of WWE

Paul Heyman has been back in WWE for almost five whole months and it seems as if he is always raising as many questions as he gives answers. We knew immediately that he was Brock Lesnar's legal representative, but we had no clue as to what his plans would be once Lesnar disappeared after SummerSlam.
We got our answer during an episode of Raw in Chicago, where an Emmy-worthy piece of camerawork revealed Heyman as CM Punk's driver. Did this mean that Punk and Heyman would be starting some kind of group? Would this be a story revolving around Punk's being "a Paul Heyman guy" during his developmental years in Ohio Valley Wrestling and his beginnings in the revived version of ECW? Could this all be a coup to get John Cena on his side?
The conspiracy theories will continue to circulate for as long as Paul Heyman chooses to stick around, but one thing is certain at this point: Heyman is done being a promoter and has gone back to his roots in management.
The idea of Paul Heyman starting another wrestling company is twofold. Anyone who has watched the fantastic The Rise and Fall of ECW documentary produced by WWE, or was a fan of Extreme Championship Wrestling during its existence knows what Heyman did for professional wrestling in America. He brought together many different styles, seamlessly blending lucha libre, mat-based technical grappling and hardcore violence into one smorgasbord of incredible in-ring action never before attempted in the United States. He made names out of Tommy Dreamer, Rob Van Dam, The Dudley Boys, Sabu, Taz, The Sandman, Shane Douglas and many others that could inflate this paragraph.
Of course, we have also heard stories about how horrid Paul Heyman's financial common sense as well as workload management skills were during his tenure as ECW owner. At a time when Heyman was continuing to innovate and give North American wrestling fans new things to discuss, he was also aging himself and cutting into his amount of sleep. By the time the company declared bankruptcy in 2001, wrestlers were owed thousands of dollars that simply could not be paid. I doubt Heyman would want to revisit those days.

Today, in 2012, Heyman is continuing to innovate, but not in the way you might think. Creative minds have conspired to offer many different products in the world of independent professional wrestling. Promotions like Evolve and Dragon Gate USA are at the forefront of treating the sport of wrestling with the respect they believe it deserves. CHIKARA makes their wrestling fun, using comedy spots and telling humorous stories in the ring to keep everybody entertained. There is something for everyone out there, and Paul Heyman need not worry about trying anything else.
What Heyman does continue to do when it comes to innovating is all in WWE. Along with Vickie Guerrero, he is the only active manager in a company that simply does not use managers anymore. This is saying a hell of a lot about how good Paul Heyman is as a manager and WWE's faith in his ability. While Bobby Heenan's health would prevent him from working for clients in the ring, there is nothing stopping them from bringing in Jimmy Hart or Paul Bearer along with new managers on the independent scene such as Truth Martini and Prince Nana. They have not. They did, however, elect to bring back a man who had a very public falling out with Vince McMahon after the direction of ECW: December to Dismember headed in a way Heyman did not like.
I like Paul Heyman where he is, and I have a hunch that a lot of people feel the same. With his wisdom and intelligence, simply having him in the locker room is an incredible presence for some of the younger members of the WWE roster to pick at and absorb. If and when his run with CM Punk finishes up and he decides to disappear from television, I would imagine Heyman becoming a regular presence at NXT now that there is a very clear focus on turning it into one of the most important aspects of the company.
Tommy Dreamer is in the midst of starting his own promotion, House of Hardcore. It has elements of what ECW used to be known for, which is of course Dreamer's bread and butter. Nothing wrong with that. I am glad to see someone taking what Paul Heyman crafted and moving on with it. I am also glad to see that it isn't Heyman himself. He is a guy who can say he had the only wrestling promotion to be brought back from the dead. He started a revolution and fought until the very end.

Paul Heyman has earned his rest. There is no reason for him to go back into promoting because, with a competitive mind and chip on the shoulder like his, he would not be able to stop until he had not just replicated ECW's success, but surpassed it. In today's business world, the chances of that are even slimmer than they would have been when going up against Ted Turner's billions of dollars.
To sum things up, I am thankful for everything Paul Heyman brought to the United States for professional wrestling. We are now able to look back on the legacy he helped to create and also reap the benefits with the multitude of options for wrestling outside of WWE. In the mean time, Heyman can keep us guessing on TV as to what his next move will be involving himself and CM Punk.
I am looking forward to all of it.

CM Punk Plugs Batista's Movie And Discusses Their Relationship
June Entertainment posted a video of WWE Champion CM Punk being asked on the red carpet about Batista's upcoming movie, The Man With The Iron Fists. "You should check out The Man With The Iron Fists," said Punk. "My buddy Dave Batista's in it, he plays Brass Body... Dave, you owe me big time for this, you really do... yo do."
Punk was also asked if he had any fond memories of Batista.
"Oh yeah, I don't know if I can really get into them a lot here on the red carpet. It might have to be an after-hours thing. But me and Dave [have] got some stories, yeah... good guy, big heart... I've wrestled Dave so many times, he's put scars on my head. He's blackened my eye, and vice versa. If Dave ever wanted to make a comeback, I'd welcome him with open arms."
Punk later mentioned that he was the WWE Champion and was the best in the world. The interviewer asked, "better than Dave?"
"Yes," Punk replied. "He knows that, that's why he's doing movies now.

Report: Top WWE Diva Leaving Soon
WWE Diva Elizabeth Carolan, a.k.a Beth Phoenix, is reportedly finishing up with the company shortly. According to a source, Phoenix will be retiring in October. Phoenix made her WWE debut in 2006 as an ally to Trish Stratus during her feud with Mickie James. She would go on to hold the WWE Women's Championship three times, as well as the WWE Diva's Championship.
Phoenix was en route to displacing Maryse Ouellet as the longest reigning WWE Divas Champion in history earlier this year, however lost the belt a week before she could break the record to Nikki Bella on the April 23rd episode of Raw.

Exclusive Update On Jeff Hardy's TNA Status, WWE Return Considered

Exclusive Update On Jeff Hardy's TNA Status, WWE Return Considered
As noted earlier, Jeff Hardy's TNA contract expires at the beginning of 2013. According to a source close to the situation, the primary concern for Hardy right now is to take time away from beating himself up and taking bumps full time. Hardy is a big advocate now of taking care of himself, which includes not overworking. He wants time to recharge and heal, as well as to spend more time with his family.
A WWE return is a possibility, and it has been something he's considered. It is not currently his primary focus.
TNA originally tried to strong arm him into re-signing by not not putting him on TV, not push him and telling him that they will use him just to build other wrestlers up. After TNA saw that their approach wasn't working, they changed gears and "started kissing his ass," leading to his current push.
Currently, Hardy wants a substantial amount of time off from being under contract and doesn't want to work full time anywhere when his deal is up. He'll decide where -- or if -- he'll work after that. TNA is obviously working to re-sign him, and are hoping that his current push will change his mind.

WWE: If Randy Orton Makes a Heel Turn, Who Will Turn Face?

Randy-orton-vs-dolph-ziggler-randy-orton-28711675-630-352_crop_exact fanpop.com
There are rumors and speculation running all throughout the WWE that Randy Orton (this according to Ben Kerin of WrestlingNewsSource.com) is clamoring for a "heel" change in his character.
If there is anyone on the current roster that could switch sides (again) and have it truly mean something in the WWE, maybe Orton is the logical choice.
But with all changes in the course of WWE history and chemistry, who makes the turn to balance the lines of power?
Like I have said in the past, the WWE is loaded with talented heels and the division of "heel vs. face" is as uneven within the company and it has been in years. With younger talents being the main heels of the company (Dolph Ziggler, Cody Rhodes, Antonio Cesaro), I cannot see how this will change anytime soon.
However, here are a few thoughts.
Wrestlers like Rhodes, Ziggler and even The Miz are popular heels. And while their styles of wrestling are so "over the top" at times, that fans cannot help but love the antics, the work on the microphone and the overall package. Rhodes spent time as a face, winning tag team gold with Bob Holly before he made the switch to the dark side.
Ziggler is a contrast of sorts. A little Chris Jericho, a little Randy Savage and some HBK all rolled into one. And he may be the most entertaining character in the WWE right now. Forget Vickie Guerrero, who I think will be cast away soon from this angle. Ziggler is the future of this company, period.
I did not like The Miz when he first burst on the scene, but I have grown to appreciate his talents in the ring. Like JBL, I thought he was just a reality show flash in the pan as well. Miz is everything a heel should be and is becoming a more solid worker with each passing week.
The great thing about all three of these stars is they can all sell. Last year, CM Punk made them superstars, and they in turn are doing the same thing for their opponents.
With the news of Orton’s desire to make the character change, I personally think Rhodes would be the logical choice because of where he is right now in relation to the other two superstars.
When it comes to other wrestlers like Cesaro, Tensai or a Damien Sandow, their characters are developed in such a way that “heel” status is the only way they can be great right now.
I personally think—in the future—Cesaro could be developed into a Triple-H like enforcer in this company.
For now, however, we wait and see what happens. I predict Orton will get his way and the WWE will scurry to make the proper adjustments. Well, adjustments anyway. Whether they are proper or not is still up in the air. The WWE has not done the best to balance the lines of power and this move could certainly tip the scales even further in one direction over the other.

WWE Night of Champions 2012 DVD Cover SPOILS Main Event

To the shock and dismay of nobody, WWE has spoiled yet another pay-per-view release on DVD.
Dating back to the 2008 Royal Rumble DVD, WWE has continued a trend that more or less gives away the conclusion of its pay-per-views.
Thankfully, the company doesn't do it every month, as the cover of SummerSlam 2012, for instance, only advertises the top matches on the card. On other occasions, the PPV poster has also served as the cover art.
That being said, WWE, an organization that prides itself on being a forerunner in entertainment, has continued doing something that no major Hollywood studio would ever dream of doing.
Can you imagine the ending of The Avengers being spoiled on the DVD/Blu-ray cover?
Or one of the final frames of The Hunger Games being front and center on the DVD/Blu-ray?
Certainly, fans of both films would be up in arms about such a short-sighted gaffe.
WWE doesn't mind, though, as the cover art of Night of Champions 2012 (click HERE to see it), as reported by WWEDVDNews.com, features CM Punk, with WWE title in hand, standing tall over a fallen John Cena. The background features Paul Heyman on the apron, looking satisfied with the outcome of the main event.
The brain trust in WWE would argue that, because it churns out episodic television building upon the results of previous pay-per-views, spoiling DVD covers is no big deal.

However, since storylines are in constant flux, a fan may not remember what happened one month ago, let alone six months prior.
Not to mention, a large contingent of WWE's fans are of the casual kind, who don't follow the company's every move.
As a result, if one of these members of the WWE Universe were to be standing in the aisle of a retail store, he or she may be less inclined to purchase a pay-per-view on DVD that reveals the ending.
Simply put, this relatively recent habit by WWE makes little business sense.

WWE News: Jeff Hardy Interested in Returning; Where Would He Fit In?

Hardy_crop_exact Photo: Wrestleenigma.com
Jeff Hardy is interested in returning to the WWE, according to PWInsider.com (via WrestlingInc):
With Jeff Hardy's TNA contract set to expire in early 2013, there are some rumblings that the Charismatic Enigma is interested in returning to the organization where he first gained international fame, WWE.
The "Charismatic Enigma" had a career-defining year when he left the WWE in 2009. His feud with CM Punk over the World heavyweight championship highlighted the summer and made for one of the most interesting WWE storylines in recent memory.
If Hardy does return, where would he fit in?
An obvious feud for Hardy would be with Punk. After all, it was Punk who defeated Hardy in a steel cage match and forced him out of the WWE. The two have amazing chemistry, both in the ring and on the mic, and there's no doubt they could pick up where they left off.
However, with Punk at the top of the WWE and currently caught in a feud with John Cena—and a more long-term program with The Rock—Hardy vs. Punk doesn't seem very likely.
Another good prospective angle that comes to mind could be Hardy vs. Dolph Ziggler.
With Ziggler on the rise, and Hardy one of the most popular babyfaces in wrestling, a feud between the two would be natural.
Ziggler is the kind of wrestler that can have a great match with just about anyone. It's hard to imagine that he and Hardy wouldn't have good chemistry. The WWE could even put them together as a way to reintroduce Hardy. Since Ziggler sells so well, he would certainly make Hardy look great upon returning.

Would Jeff Hardy fit into the WWE today?

If Hardy does choose to return to the WWE, he would fit in perfectly. There are a lot of new wrestlers trying to establish themselves. Hardy could help these guys get over and they would provide a lot of fresh feuds for him.

WWE News: John Cena Lashes out Against WWE.com Via Twitter

Cena-raw_crop_exact wwe.com
Yesterday afternoon, WWE.com published an article breaking the news that John Cena had undergone a surgery to remove several pieces of bone cartilage from his elbow.
Describing the procedure as "straight-forward" (citing a certain Dr. Andrews), the WWE.com article went on to state that Cena was "expected to recover in two to three weeks." In an interesting development however, it turns out that much of the information posted in the original WWE.com piece may not have been fact-checked and that Cena may in fact be out for a minimum of six weeks.
WWE.com is famous for taking real stories and spinning them to satisfy storylines or making up news stories all together, but unlike most of the semi-fictional news stories published on the site, this one ended up infuriating the article's subject.
Armed by his Twitter account, John Cena began a tirade against the inaccuracies posted on the WWE.com detailing his recovery.
Cena began his online rant, by calling the author of the article a "jackwagon." The factual errors in the article also prompted Cena to question the credibility of the WWE.com website—comparing it to the satire news organization The Onion.
Dissatisfied with the errors, Cena challenged the WWE web team to "get [their] monkey frankin facts straight!"
He would go on to clarify that his recovery time would not be 14 days—as originally stated by the WWE.com piece—but rather six weeks.
Cena's tweets also imply that WWE officials never contacted John Cena's surgeon Dr. James Andrews—despite the fact that the article claimed they had.
In reaction to John Cena's tweets, the WWE.com article was updated, correcting the previously made claim that Cena would be returning from injury in as little as two weeks: "In speaking to Dr. Andrews after the procedure, in light of the amount of work that needed to be done and the number of bone chips removed, the prognosis for recovery is closer to six to eight weeks."

The article's reasoning for the error posted on the original article was that "the information published about John Cena's recovery was given to WWE.com prior to surgery."
In the end the entire story still remains shrouded in mystery—effectively becoming a case of "he said, she said."
Of note however, is the idea that John Cena himself could be doing a work on his fans, using the six-to-eight weeks time table as both a period of rest and as a means to build-up anticipation towards his eventual rematch against CM Punk at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view in October.
Could John Cena be pulling a fast one on everyone? Or is the case simple and, in fact, someone down at the WWE headquarters made a mistake?

WWE News: John Cena Expected to Be out Longer Than Originally Expected

As you probably heard by now, John Cena underwent surgery on Tuesday.
After the procedure, it appeared that the WWE had some wishful thinking when they reported that Cena would be back in 4-6 weeks, then reduced his return date to 2-3 weeks.
Now WWE.com is reporting:
The information published about John Cena's recovery was given to WWE.com prior to surgery. In speaking to Dr. Andrews after the procedure, in light of the amount of work that needed to be done and the number of bone chips removed, the prognosis for recovery is closer to six to eight weeks. Knowing John Cena, the former WWE Champion will do everything he needs to get back in the ring as soon as possible.
John Cena later took to Twitter confirming this prognosis:

Ultimately, I get why the WWE would want Cena back sooner rather than later, as their next pay-per-view is just weeks away and they now have to scramble for a main event.

Not to mention, the CM Punk-Cena feud is finally picking up some steam and is now forced to come to a screeching halt due to Cena's injuries.
Keep in mind, not only does this affect the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view, it also affects merchandise sales. Earlier this week, the WWE just announced a partnership with the Susan G. Komen Foundation and produced a "Rise Above Cancer" pink t-shirt for Cena to wear for the entire month of October, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to the charity.
Yes, they can still promote the sale of the shirt via promo's and on WWE.com, but it's doesn't have the same pop without seeing the featured star wearing the shirt week in and out.
In the end, the WWE has their work cut out for them as they need to first figure out who CM Punk will face at Hell in a Cell. Then work on how to continue to promote the Cena gear to remind fans that they can help this cause.
