In a recent interview with PWTorch, wrestling veteran Booker T was asked what the WWE locker room's reaction to Ryback's meteoric rise has been.
In keeping with the company's positive stance, Booker revealed that there seems to be little ill-feeling or jealousy behind the scenes:
Definitely, I think the locker room is rooting for him. He knows what the respect issue is in the business. He knows what that really, really means, and how far he's going to go or not go (based on respect).
He's a humble kid. I do think the locker room is pulling for him to do well. The tale is going to be told after he goes out there in the big main event slot.
If he can pull that match up and pull that match together. If he can do that, his stock is going to go way up. If he goes out there and flops, it's going to go way down. So, I look forward to Ryback going out there and being able to pull the job off. I really think he can get it done.
Although it would be quite unthinkable for Booker to say anything different in reference to the question, his comments regarding Ryback's (real name Ryan Reeves) "respect" for the business and humility are intriguing.
This is Reeves' second go-around in the WWE, having debuted in the less than memorable role as Skip Sheffield on television in 2010.
An ankle injury and the decline of Sheffield's faction, Nexus, later allowed backstage officials to remodel Reeves into the current incarnation, "Ryback."
Given a huge post-WrestleMania push, Ryback is now preparing to main event the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view for the first time in his fledgling career.
Having been allowed the opportunity to do so in the wake of John Cena's elbow injury, many have been questioning his push in the place of perhaps more deserving superstars on the roster who have been plugging away in the business for the past few years.
His "green" ability in the ring has also been highlighted as a possible reason why he shouldn't face CM Punk for the WWE Championship at Hell in a Cell.
But if, like Booker T believes, Ryback can deliver under the spotlight come October 28, he'll go a long way to erasing such doubts.
