The Undertaker Possibly Missing WrestleMania 29 Would Be Huge Blow for WWE

After remaining very questionable for WrestleMania 29, there is a growing chance that The Undertaker could miss the WWE’s marquee event. He continues to recover from surgeries he underwent over the last year, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Wrestling Inc.)
It's said that Taker does not want to come back and have to fake his way through a mediocre match, which is why his status is up in the air. He had major shoulder and hip surgery over the past year which made it impossible for him to do any serious training for a long time. Taker couldn't lift upper body because of shoulder rehab and couldn't do lower body because of the hip rehab.

The possibility that a WrestleMania staple like The Undertaker (20-0 at the pay-per-view) could miss the show is a huge issue for the WWE, especially if they have been building the event around the idea that they would have the legend healthy enough to put on a great match. The report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Wrestling Inc.) continues to claim that former WWE champion CM Punk is still slated to square off with the legend at WrestleMania 29, but even if Undertaker can’t fight this year, there is likely at least one more WrestleMania match in the veteran’s future.
As of a few days ago, the internal word was that Taker is still "planned" to face CM Punk this year. People close to Taker believe that if he doesn't do WrestleMania 29, then his career is not over and it would simply mean he didn't have enough time to fully recover from everything. The expectation is that he would like to do WrestleMania 30 in 2014 and that the show could be built around his farewell since he will be 49 years old at that point.
As great as The Undertaker is, and as much as the aura he carries has become synonymous with the WWE, the time is running out on his career. The WWE Universe wants to see the Deadman on the road to WrestleMania in 2013, but they wouldn’t be advocating for his return if it would be lackluster.
With the inability to train because of his multiple surgeries, The Undertaker isn’t comfortable showing up on the biggest stage of them all at anything less than his best. The Undertaker is doing what’s right for himself, but that’s not what’s best for WWE as a business.
WrestleMania is the biggest wrestling weekend of the year, and The Undertaker is what most wrestling fans think about first when talking about the WWE’s biggest show.

Nothing says WrestleMania like The Undertaker and his unbelievable streak. Without The Undertaker, WrestleMania 29 will feel like it’s missing something, and the way the show is viewed years from now will be skewed. If Undertaker comes back for Wrestlemania 30, the 2013 edition of the PPV will always be looked upon negatively because of the Deadman’s exclusion.
The WWE uses WrestleMania as one of the biggest sources of income and mainstream media attention, so being without a character like The Undertaker, a star that holds serious clout with wrestling fans of all generations, will hurt the final product.
John Cena vs. The Rock would be a great main event, but without The Undertaker on the card, WrestleMania 29 would feel incomplete. While the building would sell out and buyrates would be through the roof, the show wouldn't have the same aura as previous events featuring the legend.
There is no question that The Undertaker will be back to wrestle on the grandest stage of them all again, if for no other reason than to get the proper farewell he deserves, but there is a serious chance that 2013 won’t be that year.
The WWE and WrestleMania 29 will suffer without him.
