Floyd Mayweather Jr. likes money, and the WWE likes bringing in stars from outside its company to raise its profile, so it is no surprise that the undefeated boxing champ is set to make his return to the wrestling ring for WrestleMania 29 next April at the 80,000-plus capacity MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.
This is according to Mayweather himself. Money was on with New York radio host Peter Rosenberg on Hot 97 when he dropped the news. Conveniently, this radio interview has been captured on video for all eternity.
As Mayweather eludes to, this will not be his first rodeo with the WWE. He showed up and busted the Big Show's nose in 2008.
And he broke his nose for real! As Money points out, this whole wrestling thing was much more realistic than he thought—though the action was still not as real as the money he made, and will likely make, in appearance fees.
He reportedly made $20 million for his last appearance, and the price tag for this superstar's services has likely only risen since then.
Mayweather is a natural for the WWE. He has no problem taking a controversial stance and shouting his view for the entire world to hear. This is a man that loves the spotlight and creating the hype.
While it is unclear what his role will be at WrestleMania XXIX, the WWE will make full use of his talents, and I wouldn't expect Money to wind up on the losing end of any altercations next April.
