To the shock and dismay of nobody, WWE has spoiled yet another pay-per-view release on DVD.
Dating back to the 2008 Royal Rumble DVD, WWE has continued a trend that more or less gives away the conclusion of its pay-per-views.
Thankfully, the company doesn't do it every month, as the cover of SummerSlam 2012, for instance, only advertises the top matches on the card. On other occasions, the PPV poster has also served as the cover art.
That being said, WWE, an organization that prides itself on being a forerunner in entertainment, has continued doing something that no major Hollywood studio would ever dream of doing.
Can you imagine the ending of The Avengers being spoiled on the DVD/Blu-ray cover?
Or one of the final frames of The Hunger Games being front and center on the DVD/Blu-ray?
Certainly, fans of both films would be up in arms about such a short-sighted gaffe.
WWE doesn't mind, though, as the cover art of Night of Champions 2012 (click HERE to see it), as reported by WWEDVDNews.com, features CM Punk, with WWE title in hand, standing tall over a fallen John Cena. The background features Paul Heyman on the apron, looking satisfied with the outcome of the main event.
The brain trust in WWE would argue that, because it churns out episodic television building upon the results of previous pay-per-views, spoiling DVD covers is no big deal.

However, since storylines are in constant flux, a fan may not remember what happened one month ago, let alone six months prior.
Not to mention, a large contingent of WWE's fans are of the casual kind, who don't follow the company's every move.
As a result, if one of these members of the WWE Universe were to be standing in the aisle of a retail store, he or she may be less inclined to purchase a pay-per-view on DVD that reveals the ending.
Simply put, this relatively recent habit by WWE makes little business sense.
