CM Punk vs. the Rock: Full Preview of WWE Title Match at Elimination Chamber

When defending WWE champion The Rock squares off against CM Punk at the 2013 edition of the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view, the excitement level surrounding the WrestleMania-worthy main event will make this one of the most memorable matches of all time.

Was The Rock's return to WWE the smart choice for the company?

The Rock is one of the greatest champions to ever grace a wrestling ring, and he has found the perfect adversary in Punk. Both men are incredibly gifted on the mic—as seen by the weeks of great promos from each wrestler—and now the duo can show how capable they are in the ring.
There were some questions about the ring rust The Rock showed in his match against Punk at the Royal Rumble, but another month getting back into wrestling shape will result in the best meeting from these two men.
With the knowledge that they would face again, it would be safe to assume that both The Rock and Punk didn’t show their whole arsenal at the Royal Rumble when they knew a rematch was coming.
Now that this is likely the last time they will meet if The Rock wins, expect both stars to pull out all the stops in this epic Elimination Chamber main event.

Where: New Orleans Arena, New Orleans
When: Sunday, Feb. 17 at 8 p.m.

What A Win Means For The Rock
The Rock retaining the WWE Championship at Elimination Chamber would be huge for the returning veteran, especially after all the reported displeasure with his reemergence with the WWE and his current promo work.
Punk had one of the greatest championship reigns of the modern era, and the fact that The Rock was able to beat him for the strap and could successfully defend it would add so much credibility to his return to the company.
WrestleMania 29 is on the horizon, and the main reason The Rock is back is to headline that show.
As great as Punk has been over the last five years, and more specifically the last three, he still doesn’t hold a candle to the Rock’s drawing power.

What A Win Means For CM Punk
Regaining the WWE Championship would be a huge coup for CM Punk, and the resulting rematch for The Rock would result in the likely main event of WrestleMania being a triple threat between Royal Rumble winner John Cena, Punk and The Rock.
While it’s hard to believe the WWE would take the strap off Punk after 434 days just to put it back on him a few weeks later, stranger things have happened.
The uncertainty about The Undertaker—reportedly Punk’s likely opponent for WrestleMania 29 (vi—could easily result in the WWE letting Punk win at Elimination Chamber and changing the WrestleMania main event to a triple threat.
A Punk win wouldn’t be shocking at all.

Prediction: The Rock Retains
There is too much on the line in this bout for The Rock to drop the title; especially when Cena is waiting with a golden ticket to the main event of WrestleMania.
Once in a Lifetime: Part Deux.
Punk will go on to feud with another legend—likely The Undertaker or Brock Lesnar—but this match will go down in history as one of the best main events in Elimination Chamber history and a feather in both The Rock and Punk’s caps.
