WWE talent Jim Ross is rumored to be the focus of a special
edition of Raw, airing from his home state of Oklahoma on October 1,
2012. ProWrestling.Net first reported the news on Friday morning, and Ross himself discussed the special event on Twitter.
The WWE recently held a Shawn Michaels Appreciation Raw in San Antonio, and will host another appreciation special coming Monday in Montreal, with the celebrated legend being Pat Patterson.
Jim Ross is a legendary broadcaster for the WWE, and his voice can be heard over many of the company’s most memorable moments. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007.
He started his wrestling career in the Mid-South/UWF territory, where he also worked as a referee and eventually served in a marketing role. When the UWF merged with NWA territory Jim Crockett Promotions, Ross quickly became the play-by-play commentator for the flagship World Championship Wrestling program. Ross later joined the (then) WWF in 1993.
Jim Ross is best known for his years as the lead play-by-play commentator for the WWE’s flagship Monday Night Raw program, where he had a long tenure alongside fellow WWE Hall of Fame member Jerry Lawler.
He currently serves as a commentator for WWE NXT, the company’s international broadcast show for their developmental territory (formerly known as FCW, or Florida Championship Wrestling).
Ross made two notable commentary appearances in 2012. He provided play-by-play for WrestleMania 28’s Hell in a Cell match between Triple H and The Undertaker and he also provided commentary for the opening match of the WWE’s historic 1,000th episode of Monday Night Raw. According to a report from Wrestling News World, WWE Champion CM Punk publicly campaigned for Jim Ross to serve as the play-by-play commentator for his main event match against John Cena on the 1,000th Raw.

During his WWE tenure, Ross has been involved in numerous
storylines, often ending in his own personal embarrassment. He has
suffered from Bell's Palsy for years, and his condition is often the
punch line of on-screen humor from other WWE talent, including WWE
Chairman Vince McMahon. Being
a wrestling fan of 28 years, Jim Ross’s voice is a part of a large
percentage of my wrestling memories. I would personally be very
surprised if the WWE chose to mock Ross on this special edition of Raw. I
fully expect them to honor him in a very appropriate and crowd-pleasing
manner.
